What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy.”
What is a Reiki Treatment?
A Reiki treatment will often be subjective, changeable, different each time you receive it as your mind, body and energy vary on a daily, hourly and minute-by-minute basis. A treatment will begin by finding a comfortable position, often laying down or seated in a chair. There will be quiet music playing in the background to mask ambient sound, unless the client prefers silence.
Treatments can offer the client a range of emotional and physical sensations but are often described as being surrounded by a warm glow. Reiki creates a feeling of peace, well-being and wholeness for the recipient.Treatment sessions can be targeted towards one area, or the entire body. Reiki treats the person as a whole, including body, mind, spirit and emotions.
A practitioner’s hands may feel warm during a treatment, while other times they offer a cooling effect. These sensations may arise in a singular spot or feel similar to pulsations or cascading waves of sensation. Each treatment, and each client for that matter, differs and while the first treatment may not appear progressive, each subsequent treatment may lead to a deeper connection.
